Understanding the M5 Bottom Metal Compatibility with Grayboe Stocks

Hey everyone, Steve here with Grayboe. Today, I want to take a few minutes to talk about an important topic that comes up frequently: the M5 bottom metal footprint and how it applies to all Grayboe stocks. Currently, all Grayboe rifle stocks are inletted to accept the M5 footprint bottom metal. While many aftermarket rifles—such as Bergara, Christensen Arms, and others—use a Remington 700 footprint for the action inlet, their bottom metal inlet often differs. That’s where the M5 footprint comes into play.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU?

If you’re upgrading to a Grayboe stock, you’ll need to ensure you have an M5 bottom metal for a proper fit. This is crucial because your existing factory bottom metal—like those found in standard Remington 700s—typically won’t transfer over unless it’s already M5-compatible. Some manufacturers like Bergara have started producing rifles that come with what they call “M5-compatible” bottom metal. In that case, yes—you may be able to transfer it over to a Grayboe stock. However, it's essential to double-check and confirm that it’s a true M5 footprint. If it’s not, it simply won’t be compatible with our stocks.

FLOOR PLATE OPTIONS AND WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Grayboe offers several M5 bottom metal options, including a standard floor plate that functions much like a traditional BDL. If you choose that route, you’ll also need to source a spring, mag box, and follower, as our floor plate does not include those parts. Alternatively, we offer other M5 bottom metal systems to suit your specific setup and preference.

Bottom line: All Grayboe stocks require M5 footprint bottom metal. Always confirm compatibility before attempting to install your existing hardware.
